NEW WEB SITE!!!!!!!!!

I am proud to announce that Crimson Cat Creations now has it's own website! With help from friends and family - but especially my husband the site is now up and running. It is in sort of in a beta phase right now. It's 90% complete.

The decision was made to open the site before completion due to an increase in photography business that I could not promote on the blogspot space. So, this blog will no longer be updated.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy CrimsonCatCreations.com as much as this blog.

Twisted!

A friend of mine, Cyndi, put out the idea of going to Twisted for part of our 'girls night out'. I haven't gone to any yarn stores in Portland or Vancouver yet. I haven't needed to thanks to a very generous donation to my stash from my mom.

I hadn't planned on purchasing anything let alone walking up to the cash register with my felting foam block and asked if I could take pictures for my blog. The truth is that I loved the coffee house atmosphere. I guess I'm kind of a sucker for it.

They had a huge selection of patterns and yarn. I was looking for fluff but opted for a foam block this trip. For the next trip I have my eye on a felting kit ($45) that had everything to do one of several projects.

There are several cozy areas to work on your current project. Class schedules are also available. To make the sit and stitch even more relaxing you
can purchase several different coffee and tea drinks as well.

I went in not expecting much more than yarn and left wanting to go back.

I will have another post VERY soon with some news that I am really excited about.
Until then...

The Portland Knitting & Crochet Show

A friend and I went to the Knit and Crochet show after she got off work today. It was a learning experience for me since I have been crocheting since the 4th of July and knitting since Labor Day. Nonetheless crafting in general is old hat for me and the company is definitely the crafty sort.

There weren't any demonstrations or classes going when we were there, but there was still a good crowd for a Friday late afternoon. We strolled through all of the different displays and met many very nice people. Four of the places we lingered in a little longer are featured here.

Laurie and Sarah were at the Crochet Liberation Front booth. I have seen Laurie on Ravelry but since I have never actually posted on Ravelry – just lurked – I introduced myself. I purchased a window cling from here and got Laurie's autograph. If you are ever on Ravelry check out the Crochet Liberation Front for a fun view of yarn work and VERY friendly folk.

My friend purchased fiber from two different shops. First we went to Crown Mountain Farms where Klaus had some alpaca fiber that will be nice for a neutral winter scarf.

We also visited a very outgoing group of gals at Abstract Fiber. They will also be on the grass at The Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival (OFFF) My buddy and I are going to this show as well and look forward to seeing Abstract Fiber again. The colors they have available are amazing. Plus they also have a very unique bookmark business card with fluff attached as a bonus!

I purchased a 3 ounce bag of brightly colored fluff from The Village Spinning & Weaving Shop .This shop stood out about because of their selection. They probably had the biggest set up. They also had an amazing selection of books, yarn, fiber, and supplies for yarn crafters.

The Knitting & Crocheting Show is happening through Sunday afternoon at the Portland Convention Center. It is well worth the traffic to visit.

It's all in the family

It has been a CRAZY couple of weeks! We have had family visiting, family moving and family sick (all of us took turns with a NASTY cold).

But I was finally able to put a couple more items up for sale on Etsy. There are pictures of these items and descriptions on my flickr page as well.

I am now hoping to do two posts a month. I am hoping the second Friday of the month I can write about a craft related place I like to visit, and the last Friday of the month I can give an Etsy shop update. Tomorrow is the last Friday of the month so I will do the post today. I now have seven items for sale (as you can see below). I still have not sold anything but, as soon as I have a couple of items made in each category I will sign up to be featured in a showcase. I'll let you all know when that happens.

In the mean time it's almost Labor Day weekend. I have a feeling I won't be doing much in the way of crafting this weekend...Please feel free to share if you do!

Here's an updated little galery of my Etsy shop. As usual please feel free to pass on any comments - and tell your friends.

Ravelry

Ravelry is a wonderful resource for those who knit or crochet. Since I have only been crocheting for about a month, I find it to be a great place to get tips on how to make my stitches look nicer, find patterns that fit my skill level and get ideas for my next project.
It does take a few days to get an invitation. The wait is currently 3 days. But once the invitation is in your in box the fun begins!
You can keep a 'notebook' of projects that other people can see. You can rate how happy you are with the project, add details about size of needles or hooks, the yarn used, the picture and how much you have completed. There is a weekly newsletter to catch up on how Ravelry is growing, and what events are in the area. Patterns and projects are also searchable and can be marked as favorites if you wish to try them at some point.
My screen name is CrimsonCat on that forum, so if you are looking for someone to add to your 'friends' look me up! To visit the site click on the Ravelry title at the top of this post.

Ravelry - you'll be hoked after your first visit...pun intended

The Crimson Cat Creations shop is now open! I'm still working on a nice looking avatar - but it will be there soon. There should also be more items up for sale in the next couple of weeks. Feel free to check into the shop or look here to see what might be up for sale next in the shop.
